Charles Pelot Summerall (b. Mar. 4, 1867, Blount's Ferry, Fla.-d. May 14, 1955, Washington, D.C.), U.S. Army officer, graduated from West Point in 1892. Early in his career he fought in the Spanish-American War, the Philippine Insurrection, and the attack on Peking during the China Relief Expedition. He served on the front line in France during World War I as commander of the 1st Division and, later, commander of the 5th Corps.
